Mammoth Pow!!!

Hey hey hey,

It's been snowing/storming here in Mammoth Lakes, CA for at least the past two weeks and as much as I've missed the park and trying new tricks, the new snow has been epic.  Two days ago was the deepest snow I've ever ridden here in the past six years.  Chest deep in some places.

So crazy, I've gotten better at riding pow in the past couple of years, but I still got stuck a bunch.  Snow so deep that you really need to be on steep terrain or your gonna slow down and get stuck. Just have to go fast and not stop or you end up like this.

It was really fun though.  I was riding with my roommates Doug and Pip who are really good skier/snowboarders.

They make me push myself and do things I usually wouldn't do.  Like riding tight trees or jumping off of rocks.  Getting out of your comfort zone will make you progress a lot faster.
We saw a bunch of friends over here who we see everyday riding in the park.  It's a good feeling when you see other friends having as much fun as you are on a cold, overcast storm day.

Yesterday was the first bluebird day we've had in awhile.  They opened the top of the mountain and a bunch of other chairs with untracked fresh powder.  It was a race to get the goods.  I got a couple runs off the top and on the backside of the mountain.  Pretty sick on the steeper parts of the mountain.  It's suppose to clear up for a couple days just in time for the Nikita Chikita contest here at Mammoth on saturday.  Should be fun.  Wish me luck.  Later.

Colorado Adventures

Well I've been in Summit County, CO for a week now and I am having a blast! It is my second time here this season and I still can't get enough. It has been spring-like weather and my goggle tan is growing everyday. The first time here this year was for the Dew Tour where I competed against a lot of pros like Jamie Anderson, Leanne Pelosi, Spencer O'Brian and many more. I was excited and nervous at the same time. It was a little intimidated hitting an 80 footer, but I had a blast and only came out with a scratch on my chin. They took the top 4 to the next round, and I finished 6th. Still pretty good for the first comp of the year!
Now I am back to compete in the USSA Revolution Tour, the NorAm boardercross and the Burton Am slopestyle. It's been a long week and I am glad to have a few days off before the Burton Am. I finished 3rd in the rev tour slopestyle and raced pretty well in the NorAm finishing 4th. I love it here in Colorado and would stay all winter if I could! I have a lot of friends here and love the mountains- especially the rediculous parks!
This is only the beginning of my season with many more comps to come. So I will keep blogging about my adventures all over the U.S. Keep an eye out for the Grand Prix in Tahoe and the Canadian Open!

Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam
Today the PB&Rail Jam stopped in Mammoth so we went up to main park to take some laps..... Eat some PB&J....... watch all the girls killing it on the course.......and see what team rider Erin McCabe had to say.....

"Hey there folks. All the cookies you can eat, free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and a little sprite to was it all down. What I'm trying to say is I just got done doing Volcom's Peanut Butter and Jelly Rail Jam Stop #2 here at Mammoth Mountain. Pretty fun day when I look back on it. Erin Height from Anakie was there to get some pics and cheer me and her boyfriend Andrew on. For me its all a little stressful trying to do contests when you don't think you're ready for them. Rails aren't my best aspect of snowboarding, but its good to put yourself in a position where you have to push yourself or ride stuff you usually don't.

The set up was pretty solid; Flat Down Box, Crazy Wall Ride and a Down Rail with a Donkey Dick. The guys were throwing down for sure as always and a couple of the girls turned some heads too. I felt good on the flat down, but even the best trick on a box doesn't win you a contest. I hit the down rail donkey dick. Hadn't hit it yet this winter in the park just because of the donkey dick (Just in case you don't know, a donkey dick is a little kink to flat bit at the end of a rail. Can be danger if your not careful. Not all rails have them.)  It was a lot mellower that I thought it would be and wanted to 50-50 to front one out, but didn't get it. Not enough time. The heats were only 20 minutes each.

So sorry to say, I made it to finals but didn't place. Which also means I won't be able to compete in the Peanut Butter and Jelly Championships during the West Coast Invitational that is here in Mammoth in May. That's alright though, contests are a good way to find out what you really need to work on and hey, you never know, you may just win. Rule#1 Always keep your kit tight (bright yellow pants help.)
Have fun out there, until next time.

Keep it Shredtacular,
Erin"
